Pond Naming Contest: And the winners are...

After riveting debates and multiple rounds of voting, Pond A and Pond B have proper names!

Pond A will now be called... 4 Winds Pond!

Newly-named "4 Winds Pond" at Arington Tree Farm
See how it stretches out in all four directions? Like a compass, there is a portion of the pond pointing north, east, south and west.

Pond B is officially... Kitchi-Manitou Pond!

Kitchi-Manitou Pond at Arington Tree Farm
The name comes from the Ojibway story of creation, when harmony, brotherhood and respect for all living things no longer prevailed on earth. Kitchi-Manitou, the "Great Mystery" or creator of all, decided to purify the earth with water and caused a great flood. The story is of one of restoration through water and fits appropriately into the Farm's stewardship goals.

Our friend and colleague, Jerry from the American Forest Foundation, submitted both of the winning entries, so he will be getting two $25 gift cards to CamRock Cafe. Congrats Jerry and thanks for your ideas!

In other pond news, Dave and Richard were out today to do some water and oxygen level testing at the ponds. Arik will have a full update soon!
